The chapel

Its importance is linked to the very strong religious symbolism of the building. The ground is in the air. In the centre of the altar you can admire a twelve-branched rotunda and within each of them a pair of “forces” (which are the weapons of the Hauteforts) used to mow sheep. These twelve branches symbolize the twelve apostles.
A marble mausoleum, listed as a Historic Monument in 1978, is located in the altar. There are the bodies of Sigismonde Laure Charlotte, Countess of HAUTEFORT and the heart of her husband hyacinthe Maxence Baron of DAMAS. It was erected towards the end of the 19th century and transferred from the castle chapel to that of the Hôtel-Dieu in 1891.La chapelle
